Bass PLC Board Changes

Bass PLC today, 18 July 2001, announces that Bryan K. Sanderson has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Company and will join the Board with effect from 1 August 2001.He will be a member of the Audit and Remuneration Committees.

Mr Sanderson was a Managing Director of BP Amoco PLC from January 1999 until September 2000, having previously been a Managing Director of British Petroleum Co PLC. He was also a Non-Executive Director of Corus Group plc (formerly British Steel PLC) from February 1994 until June 2001 and he is currently Chairman of the Learning and Skills Council, BUPA and Sunderland p.l.c..

Sir Michael Perry and Sir Peter Middleton who have both reached the age of 67, the Company's normal retirement age for Non-Executive Directors, will retire from the Board on 31 July 2001. Mr Roger Carr, a current Non-Executive Director, will take over from Sir Michael Perry as the Senior Independent Director and as Chairman of the Audit and Remuneration Committees.

There are no other details that are required to be disclosed in respect of Mr Sanderson's appointment under paragraph 6.F.2 (b) - (g) and 16.4 of the Listing Rules of the UK Listing Authority
