Meet a 2014 world-record holder

Meet a 2014 world-record holder

For a pint of real ale with delicious flavour and a great British story, join us at your local Nicholson's. Right now, they're serving Top of the Hops - a world-record holder, that's helping support UK hop growing.

An unequalled 2,014 British hop varieties are used to create this blonde beer's unique and complex taste. No two batches are identical, meaning you get a fresh experience every time you drink from a new one. Top of the Hops is the product of an exclusive partnership between Peter Darby of Wye Hops, Nicholson's pubs, and Great Yorkshire Brewery. Each year, Peter grows 1000s of hop varieties as he quests to develop better ones, but only ever uses a small fraction of each plant's harvest in his research.

So in 2013, Nicholson's and Great Yorkshire bought all remaining flowers from 2,014 of the different strains Peter had cultivated that year. Once these are dried, a slightly different blend goes into each Top of the Hops batch. So the beer is constantly evolving and intriguing.

Ben Lockwood, Nicholson's brand manager, says: "With people's continued interest in, and greater understanding of, hops and their role in beer's diverse flavours, we're delighted to work with Peter on this project. Our guests come to expect innovation from us, and we're happy to be supporting Britain's hops industry."

You can enjoy Top of the Hops at all Nicholson's locals around the country. After all, where better to meet a world-record holder than in a pub whose Cask Marque accreditation means every pint is performing at its peak?
