O'Neill's and Ugo Monye host the Rugby World Cup Trophy

O'Neill's and Ugo Monye host the Rugby World Cup Trophy

The Webb Ellis Cup made its way to Birmingham as O'Neill's pub on Broad Street hosted the Rugby World Cup Trophy as part of its UK-wide tour. As well as giving rugby fans the chance to come face-to-face with the iconic Trophy, they were also joined by special guest Ugo Monye, former English international rugby union player and BT Sport Expert.

On Tuesday 21st July, O'Neill's, which was selected as the only on-trade site in the Midlands to host the Trophy, held a VIP event in the evening where sports fans had the opportunity to meet Ugo Monye, have a photograph with the Webb Ellis Cup and pour your own pint of Heineken® served Extra Cold, in the VIP room.

Heineken® also gave away two exclusive tickets to watch South Africa v Samoa in their Rugby World Cup 2015, Pool B Match at Villa Park. The prize included the lucky winners being able to join the teams in the tunnel for the start of the match coin toss.

For the duration of Rugby World Cup 2015, O'Neill's pubs up and down the country will be participating in several fundraising initiatives, to support the RFU Injured Players Foundation –England Rugby's official charity - which provides care for seriously injured players and supports research and education to prevent future injuries.

With over 35 pubs on board, the teams have set themselves a target of £50,000 for the charity, with Tuesday's event at Broad Street raising £1,000

Speaking about the event, James Litherland, regional business manager at O'Neill's, Broad Street said: "It was an incredible night and what an honour to be chosen to host one of sport's most recognised Trophy's for the evening. At O'Neill's we love our live sports and so we wanted to create the best atmosphere for the evening, just like we do for all our big-screen action - whatever the sport.

"As well as everyone enjoying themselves, most importantly we raised over £1,000 for RFU Injured Players Foundation in just one night which is a proud achievement so a big thank you to all who came down. It's sure to be an exciting Tournament, so make sure you pop down to O'Neill's to watch all the action and we're looking forward to support the RFU throughout the duration of Rugby World Cup 2015."
