Mitchells & Butlers opens first Orchid Conversion

Mitchells & Butlers opens first Orchid Conversion

The Sawyer's Arms, Manchester opened as a Nicholson's pub after a significant investment. It's the first Orchid pub to be converted by Mitchells & Butlers.

The pub is the first conversion to open its doors since the company bought the Orchid Pub Group in June 2014 and will employ over 35 people.

The Manchester pub perfectly suits the iconic character and charm of Nicholson's pubs and is located in the popular Deansgate area of the city. The Sawyer's will offer guests the opportunity to discover a fantastic traditional pub, serving a selection of handpicked cask ales and classic pub food. This Grade II-listed building has been a pub since the 1700s and is reputed to be one of Manchester's oldest pubs, having first gained its licence in 1730.

Mitchells & Butlers is converting 96 of the 173 Orchid pubs into its successful brands and formats over the next two years. The company is investing £35 million in this programme.

Alistair Darby, Chief Executive of Mitchells & Butlers comments: "This is a significant milestone in our investment plan for the Orchid pub estate. The Sawyer's Arms is a great addition to the Nicholson's collection of classic pubs and is the first of around 90 exciting conversions to our leading brands which we will be undertaking over the next two years."
