Join the Jig with O'Neill's
As part of its legendary St Patrick's Day celebrations, recently embarked on a nationwide campaign to raise money for charity.
‘Join the Jig' saw troupes of Irish dancers and musicians visiting four city centres - Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Glasgow - on the Monday prior to St Patrick's Day, Monday 15th March.
Each troupe appeared at a variety of locations around each city centre providing the public with the chance to learn and perform an Irish dance. In return, participants were asked to make a small donation to a nominated local charity, which joined the troupes on the day.
Irish bands and musicians taking part in the campaign included Ray Dunne, Mulligan & Mulligan and William Patterson and Irish Associations such as The George Ferguson School of Irish Dancing, Doherty School of Dance and the World Irish Dancing Championships. Charities included Cash For Kids, CHAS (Children's Hospice Association Scotland), Acorns and LATCH.
"Whether it's a Galway Reel or a Seige of Innis, we invited everyone to join in with the troupes and practice their Irish dancing for St Patrick's Day," says Sarah Taylor of O'Neill's. "What better way to raise money, and a smile, on an otherwise ordinary Monday?"
The ‘Join the Jig' campaign is just one of several fundraising activities occurring across the 62 O'Neill's locations on and before St Patrick's Day 2010. Pubs will also be hosting a range of entertainment throughout the day, from live music, to quizzes, and fancy dress competitions.
