Mitchells & Butlers and CBSO crowned champion of champions
Mitchells & Butlers and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) have been named Champion of Champions at the Jaguar Arts & Business Awards 2007.
The Arts & Business Awards honour the broad range of extraordinary partnerships forged between business and the arts in the West Midlands.
The Champion of Champions Award celebrates Mitchells & Butlers' sponsorship of the CBSO as the most outstanding partnership of the year.
Mitchells & Butlers and CBSO also won a second Sustainability Award in recognition of its long term business and arts relationship.
The partnership started 27 years ago when Mitchells & Butlers sponsored a concert at Birmingham Town Hall and the Company has maintained its support of the CBSO ever since by sponsoring one concert per season. In 1996, Mitchells & Butlers became one of the first companies to support the CBSO Centre capital appeal by endowing the Principal Double Bass's chair, an arrangement that continues to the present day.
In 2003 Mitchells & Butlers relocated its Head Office to central Birmingham and wished to mark its commitment to the City and region. The Company expanded its support by sponsoring a series of community concerts, 'On the Road', taking CBSO musicians to different venues around the Midlands - from village halls, churches and libraries to historical settings and pubs.
The Arts & Business judges wanted to recognise, celebrate and applaud the fantastic 27 year partnership.
Tim Clarke, chief executive, Mitchells & Butlers said: "We are very proud to have won these awards and receive recognition for Mitchells & Butlers' commitment to Birmingham and the West Midlands. Our special relationship with the CBSO has benefited both organisations and built a successful community programme through our CBSO ‘On the Road' concerts."
