Mitchells & Butlers Rewards Pubs With A Heart

Mitchells & Butlers hosted its annual Heart of the Community Pub of the Year Awards last week and crowned six pubs as being outstanding for their community spirit and activity.

Mitchells & Butlers, the UK’s leading operator of managed pubs and pub restaurants, with some 2,000 businesses across the country, launched the awards to recognise those pubs which have not only been successful fundraisers but have made a big impact on their local communities over the past 12 months.

A total of £24,000 in prize money is donated by Mitchells & Butlers through the awards scheme, which helps the Company’s pubs support a number of different local and national charities.

The award judges were looking for pubs that were actively involved in their local area, showed unusual and imaginative ways of fundraising and illustrated what has made their pub stand out and be at the heart of its community.

Six pubs won regional awards and all scooped a £1,000 donation for their chosen charity.

North East: Three Magpies, Rotherham (Sizzling Pub Co)

North West: Anderton Arms, Fulwood (Ember Inns)
South East: Beech Tree, Bromley (Sizzling Pub Co)

South West: Village Inn, Shaw (Sizzling Pub Co)
Wales: Bryncoch Inn, Neath (Sizzling Pub Co)
Midlands: Hamstead, Great Barr (Sizzling Pub Co)

This year, two pubs were jointly named as Heart of the Community Pub of the Year, for their truly stupendous work with, and in support of, the people in their areas. The Anderton Arms, Fulwood ( Ember Inns) and the Bryncoch Inn, Neath (Sizzling Pub Co) scooped the National Heart of the Community Pub of the Year Award and received £7,500 each for their chosen charities.

The Three Magpies, Rotherham (Sizzling Pub Co) came a close second, and was named runner up, receiving a donation of £3,000.

Mike Bramley, managing director Pubs & Bars, who presented the awards said, “The communities served by our pubs represented at these awards, have the good fortune to have such great managers and staff working with them.

Mitchells & Butlers is also delighted – and lucky - to have such terrific ambassadors helping to build our reputation in pubs and communities across the country. Congratulations to all our winners.”
