Mitchells & Butlers' wins Award of Excellence

Mitchells & Butlers, the UK’s leading operator of managed pubs and pub restaurants, with some 2,000 businesses across the country, was named ‘Food Operator of the Year’ at the 2007 PubChef Excellence Awards.

The honour was presented to Mitchells & Butlers at the annual awards evening organised by PubChef Magazine. The ‘Food Operator of the Year’ Award recognises the pub company that has developed and delivered a successful food offer over the last 12 months.

The award judges’ comments highlighted: “Mitchells & Butlers is the now the UK’s largest operator of branded managed food pubs. The pub eating out market is growing by 5% a year and Mitchells & Butlers increased food sales by over 7% last year.”

Mitchells & Butlers now sells nearly 100 million meals a year and average weekly food sales per pub are over five times the pub industry average.

The Company’s Pub & Carvery format was also recognised as a finalist in the ‘Food Concept’ category. The award judges commented: “Pub & Carvery offers a freshly cooked carvery meal, in a pleasant and relaxed environment, offering better value for money than the home-cooked alternative.”

Tim Clarke, chief executive, commented on receiving the award; “Our strategy of offering high quality amenity and good value food and drink in our extensive range of brands and formats has seen us extend our leadership of the fast growing eating-out market. I am delighted that the talent and hard work of everyone in Mitchells & Butlers has been recognised with these two prestigious awards.”
