Boasting about their roast
Prompted by a major national TV campaign, carvery fans of all ages flocked to Toby Carverys nationwide to deliver a "town cry" about their preferences in a roast dinner from succulent beef, turkey or gammon to fluffy mash, Yorkshire puddings, lashings of gravy, golden carrots, juicy roasters or even the much maligned humble sprout, based on the endless permutations on the famous Toby Carvery table.
Schooled by National Town Crying Champion Kevin Griffiths at the Kenton Bank Toby Carvery, Ruth became the North East finalist with her ditty about Toby's great value.
Nine regional finalists then went head to head with fans voting for their favourite video on Toby's website and Facebook page. Ruth cruised into an early lead becoming the ultimate winner with 35% of the votes.
A Month of Sundays
Ruth's prize is a Month of Sundays at the Kenton Bank Toby Carvery: 31 vouchers for roast dinners worth £50 each for Ruth and her friends to enjoy.
And, as it turns out, Ruth has rather a lot of friends who all dutifully voted for her and now expect a slap up roast dinner in return. "However," adds Ruth with a twinkle, "I think my first visit will be a cosy tete-a-tete with my partner."
