A team of Mitchells & Butlers' employees have won a competition in the West Midlands by raising almost £75,000 for youth charity The Prince's Trust.

The team of employees, based in Birmingham, took part in The Prince's Trust Million Makers challenge, beating other teams across the West Midlands to raise the most cash in the region.

The challenge takes place between businesses throughout the UK with up to 100 teams going head-to-head and aiming to raise a total of £1million.

The Mitchells & Butlers team, Team Pride, raised the money by selling wristbands printed with the words 'support a generation' for £1 each in Mitchells & Butlers restaurants and pubs across the UK and by holding a grand prize draw at their annual staff conference event.

After six months of fundraising, the winning team was announced at Browns restaurant in The Bullring, Birmingham on Friday 8th March. The awards were presented by John O'Reilly, regional director for The Prince's Trust in Central England.

Robin Young, Operations Director, Mitchells & Butlers, said: "Our team were extremely dedicated trying to raise money for The Trust and we couldn't have done it without the support of so many people. Without the combined efforts of the team, our customers and the local community we wouldn't have raised nearly as much.

"Taking part in The Prince's Trust Million Makers challenge has been a fantastic experience and we have all learnt a lot about ourselves and each other as a result."

The Prince's Trust Million Makers programme challenges teams to turn a small amount of money into thousands of pounds by setting up mini-enterprises, ranging from making a product to holding an event.

Money raised from the West Midlands challenge goes towards supporting disadvantaged young people across the region, giving them the skills and confidence to find a job.

The challenge is also open to organisations as a staff development opportunity to enhance team work, communications skills and leadership qualities.

Youth charity The Prince's Trust helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. It supports 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. Three in four young people supported by The Trust move into work, education or training.
