A quarter of global greenhouse emissions come from food production, which is why the family favourite brand has pledged to increase its range of meat-free dishes and to give low-emission dishes more prominence on menus. Teaming up with the Cool Food Pledge, an initiative run by global research organisation WRI which aims to reduce the impact of the food served in restaurants, the pledge has gone live in 12 trailblazer sites across the Midlands including Birmingham, Coventry, and Milton Keynes.

With some foods generating more greenhouse gases than others, the planet-friendly dishes offer diners more plant-based choices. A new green planet symbol has also been introduced onto menus for the first time to indicate the low-emission options to guests.

The chefs behind Harvester’s famous chargrill and salad bar have been working tirelessly to develop six new sustainable dishes, that aim to deliver on conscience, without compromising on taste! Diners can expect to see the following new dishes on the main and meat-free menus at the trial sites:

  • The Beyond* Dirty burger V
  • The Hallo-Me burger V
  • The BBQ Jack* burger Ve
  • The Surfin’ Bird burger
  • Grilled no-chicken fillet flatbread Ve
  • Grilled sweet chilli no-chicken fillet balanced bowl Ve

*Harvester has also partnered with Beyond Meat to feature its iconic Beyond Burger® in its meat free burgers.

Commenting on the exciting initiative, David Gallacher, Divisional Director - Restaurants, said: “We’re proud to be one of the first UK restaurant brands to partner with this leading research organisation and sign up to its Cool Food Pledge as part of our net zero carbon commitment.

“The pledge is all about how we can all take a simple step to make a big difference without compromising on the Harvester experience.

“We’re encouraging our guests to try our new sustainable dishes at our trailblazer restaurants and let us know what they think. We hope they enjoy them as much as we do as the goal is to roll them out to all our Harvester restaurants across the UK!”

If rolled out, Harvester’s Cool Food Pledge would remove 9,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of taking 3,214 diesel cars off the road.
